Sakura Do (Hershey, Pa.)

I love the shrimp tempura sushi, which is cooked shrimp surrounded by nori and rice and fish roe.

The other night I went to Sakura Do in Hershey, Pa.  I had their delicious house salad with ginger dressing and then the shrimp tempura, which is battered cooked shrimp and cucumber surrounded by nori, which is seaweed, and rice and tobiko, which in Japanese means red fish roe (eggs).  When you put a piece in your mouth, you can hear the crackling popping sound of the red fish eggs.  It feels very interesting and funny, and I like it.  This is my favorite kind of sushi. My mom had sushi made of soft shell crab.

My shrimp tempura is on the left and my mom's soft shell crab is on the right.

To drink I had ginger ale with cherries. Fair warning, I would just like to say that the green blob (in the photo above) is wasabi, and it is very hot. One time one of my friends was trying sushi for the first time, and took a big hunk of the wasabi and put it in her mouth and screamed. If you want to try the wasabi, I would make sure you have a drink next to you and take a teeny tiny bit and put a little on the top of a piece of sushi. The pink slices are pickled ginger, which are not very hot but just a little.  I like the pickled ginger because it’s sweet and spicy at the same time and I like that.

My salad with really yummy ginger dressing and my drink.

For dessert, I had the red bean mochi, which is red bean ice cream with sweet rice dough surrounding the ice cream. It is delicious.

Here is the red bean mochi dessert (red bean ice cream surrounded by sweet dough).

I would suggest going to this restaurant on a week night, which is what we usually do, but this time we went on a Friday night and it was very busy so the service was slow, but each order is made by hand so that’s why it takes a very long time.

If you like sushi you would like this restaurant.  It’s not a fancy dress up restaurant, it’s a casual jeans type of restaurant. There is beautiful Japanese art on the walls.
